6 Months Old and Rusting

I washed the car today, opened the bonnet to fill the water bottle and found the following on the stamped panerl details on top of the front offside wing panel
It's all surface rust probably due to the stamping being done after painting but I'm totally P'd off with it as it's so unsightly. To add insult when I took it into the local dealer he said there had been previous similar issues with the Passat and VW refused to treat them under the warranty.
NOT IMPRESSED

Before I bought mine I looked at another white one that had exactly the same issue, that was only 9 months old. I totally agree about the stamping and also that cable seems to have a fabric type covering which once wet I guess could stay wet quite a while.
I'll be putting a good coating of wax on mine when I clean it this weekend.
I can't see how they can fail to address this on cars only 6 months old.

To be honest, if mine was doing that after 6 months, I wouldn't take a "Not under Warranty" crock of sh!t statement!
They will say anything to get out of it sometimes...

I'm not going to but I'll have to wait until VW authorise the repair (or not). It was the service guy that brought up previous issues with the Passat that Vw wouldn't authorise

Thats not good, but when i looked at mine it was covered in a see through tape as they should be, this prevents the elements from attacking the bare metal, looks like they didnt bother applying the tape to yours and a few others !!

The clear tape is there in the photos
Just it has lifted at particular points allowing in moisture leading to bare metal areas rusting.

Glad you said that, thought i was loosing my mind

, good they are sorting, just ensure they only paint (if the do paint) the inner part of the wing, dont let them do anything else , i do wonder how there going to fix it ?, as if they paint it then its going to look liek the VIN has been tampered with ?
I guess its a warning to everyone, ensure there is tape covering your Stamp

Just got it back - fully sorted and it's also got a plastic strip over it now.
While it's been in I've had a new Polo as a courtesy car. Locked it on the drive yesterday and fortunately took the dog for a walk. As I walked past the Polo both front windows were down!!! My Roc's suffered from this problem intermittently - think I'll be looking elsewhere next time I change my car which is unfortunate as the car is brilliant but there are too many niggles with them.
