Scirocco Central

Today, at the VW Autoeuropa – Automóveis Ltda. plant in Portugal, just two years after its market launch, the hundred-thousandth third-generation Scirocco rolled off the production line. “The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment”, said Andreas Hinrichs, Autoeuropa Plant Manager.

The celebrated model is a Scirocco R 2.0 TSI, in Rising Blue Metallic, with a Titan Black interior, radio navigation system, Park Pilot and a tilting sunroof. In southern Portugal, with 3,000 employees, Volkswagen produces the Volkswagen Eos, the new Sharan and, since 2008, the third generation of the Scirocco.

With its attractive design and sporty appearance, the Scirocco leaves a lasting impression. In 2008, it swept up the AutoBILD Design Award and was named Car of the Year by Top Gear magazine. The Scirocco is looking just as good in motor sports as it does on the open road: already in 2008, the racing version of the new Scirocco occupied top ranks at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. In its first time at the competition in 2009, the Scirocco GT24-CNG (natural gas) won in the alternative-drive class.

Since its market launch in 1974, this compact sports coupé has been the most successful Volkswagen in its segment: 795,650 vehicles were sold up to 1992. Currently, the third generation is being manufactured.

well they couldn't really go around sticking stickers all over someones brand new car they hadn't transported out yet!

but if the 100,000th car was indeed a R, at least get the marketing pic right for it. shocking oversight......

Now we know why they take so long to build them....they all stand around for photos!

now we know y it takes so long to build them... they are all stood around chatting and gossiping, I am surprised they get any made!!!!

So is 100,000 in 2 years a lot in car production terms ? I don't know. Not a lot in comparison to the mass production models of the world.

Just thinking that as most of those 100,000 will have been sold around Europe my Roc is not quite as exclusive as it was.

I remember my old dad who used to work at rover or should i say the infamous ex british leyland and they had a photo shoot around a mini metro for the k series engined metro.
Same as here they were all standing about ect ect....wonder if they have sleeping bags and camp beds like they did in the old days back at british leyland.

Exactly my thought ... confirmed by a photograph my son took of a dealership in Belfast ... 4 rocs lined up across the front - red/rising blue/red/rising blue - and a few more parked down the side of the building (including a grey and a silver).

i wonder which one of them is responsible for installing all the rattles,squeaks,creaks&groans in the cars?? probably the tirest looking of them all seein he or she is busiest of them all?
