Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone else on here watched the BBC4 documentary last night on the 1955 Le Mans crash? To be honest, I hadn't heard of it before and it was a bit of eye opener to the early endurance races.

Anyway, it was a really good programme and here is the iPlayer link if anyone wants to catch up:

Yeah I saw that too and I must admit I hadn't heard of it either. It was a very interesting documentary though. The overlayed panorama picture at the end was quite shocking.

I looked up a Pathe news item about it and the announcer was very matter of fact about it all saying well done to Mike Hawthorn for winning the race and it was a pity lots of people had died! It also never ceases to amaze me at the shots of people standing virtually on the track while the cars whizz by. They just never considered safety at all did they.

Nah, it was crazy. I couldn't believe how close the pitting area was to the track!

Cheers for the heads-up Ashley.

Watched this last night - very interesting. must have been a terrible sight. Fascinating to hear from some of the other drivers and how it affected them.
