Low revs in neutral

Today i stalled the car for the first time....went from 3rd in to 4th at some lights :D (was attempting to select 2nd!).

Whilst in neutral i revved the engine as i turned it back on (music was on loud!!)....revs would only go to 2200...even if i floored it.

Car drove away fine and has been fine since. What was all that about? why only 2200 revs with the pedal floored?

It's limited but i'm sure it's more like 3,200 on the 2.0 TSI. I don't know the reason, maybe to stop you overheating the the turbo etc when at standstill?

Anyway, this is NORMAL! At least on the GT. If you had a petrol with revo fitted you wouldn't have stalled

2200 rev limit in neutral on a 170TDI sounds right, if it's 3200 on the 2.0TSI. The TDI is geared much higher and red lines much earlier than the TSI. With all the torque generated, the limiter is in there to stop you frying your clutch and tyres primarily. If you could attempt to pull away at 4000rpm, you'd shred through your tyres in no time, the car would have no traction, and you'd be wheel spinning on the spot.

Would you really want to pull away from a standstill at 4000 revs in anything other than an "Airfix" Corsa 1.2 and a section of oil pipeline pipe where the exhaust should be?

If you were on the quarter mile you might.

I prefer spinning the wheels after i've set off. Altho I'm not fond of axle tramp :(
