Scirocco Rim Swap Compatibility

Post by sintek »

Hey there guys...Quick question...
I have a Scirocco 2010 2.0 tsi dsg that has the following tyre & rim specs...
235/40ZR18 91W
8Jx18 ET41

I am able to get a set of 4 Golf 7 R Cadiz rims at a very good price...
I understand the rim spec to be 8Jx19ET50...
Both have the same bolt pattern of 5|112...
Is there any way to make this fit my scirocco...

Yes, you could add 8mm/10mm spacers all round which would effectively give you an offset of ET42/40, so only 1mm difference from OEM. If you decide to go down this route I would recommend hubcentric spacers to avoid any possible vibration issues. For reference the centre bore for both types of wheels is 57.1mm.

Obviously you would also require longer wheel bolts. OEM bolt length is 27mm therefore you would need around 35mm/37mm length. Have a look on Awesome GTI website as they do spacers and longer wheel bolts.

Tyres would be 235/35R19 91Y

Hi Cubrabob...
Thank you for your reply...After some research on the ET offset, that now makes alot of sense...
One last question...Will the addition of the spacers in any way have a negative affect on the normal wear & tear...

Hey guys...Me again...
So am still searching for a perfect fit 19" rim...at a reasonable price without unecessary modification required...
Can now get Audi Rotor Rims...
Spec as follows... 8.5Jx19ET35...Tyre size is 255/35/ZR19
With the scirocco having a spec of 8Jx18ET41, this means the rim will stick out by 6mm...Is this correct...
Will this audi rim be a viable option...without the need for modification...

No you're wrong with the 6mm because you've not taken into account the extra 0.5" width of the wheel.

Therefore the wheel will have 12.35mm* less clearance on the outside to the wheel arch and 0.35mm* less clearance on the inside to the strut.
* 6mm offset +6.35mm width = 12.35mm
* 6.35 mm width - 6mm offset = 0.35mm
6.35mm is derived from 12.7mm (0.5") / 2

You can put the figures into a calculator like this one to make easier to visualise.

I'm honestly not sure on whether you would get rubbing on the front wheel arch or not. My gut tells me it would be OK but possibly have a look through the forum as there are some guys running some rims wider than that but I don't know what offset they have.

Also, the centre bore of some Audi wheels are 66.5mm and would require spigot rings to match the 57.1mm centre bore on the Scirocco. Depends what model of Audi the wheels are from.

I wouldn't dismiss them completely but you just need to check out a couple of things regarding clearance and centre bore diameter.
