The Roc is poorly

Had the engine/emissions light come on Monday morning. I took the Roc to VW on Tuesday and left it with them for the day. When I went to pick it up they said no log had been made on the computer and they couldn't diagnose the problem, so they turned the light off and advised it maybe the start of a intermitant fault

Did a 50 mile round trip to work and back yesterday calling at a friends house on the way home last night. I was just moving off the drive at about 5mph when the light came on again.

Took it back to VW today for further investigation. Got a call this afternoon saying that they couldn't find what but something was wrong as the senior technician had been out with in it and didn't think it was driving properly and power was reduced. They had been speaking to VW but as of yet have no answer or fix.......

Any one got any clues or had similar? The car is a November 2008 2.0 TSI manual with 7800 miles on the clock.

I did mention the 2400-3000 rpm rasping noise which I think has been getting worse, but I got read the new VW bulletin saying they all do that and no warranty action was needed.

Little bit worried at the moment, I love the Roc but I hate unreliable cars and have already been on Autotrader.......

They now have it until Saturday morning leaving me carless.

Hi Adam,

Sorry to hear about problems. Not unusual to have a car sick but no diagnostics showing. What you might call a worst nightmare for a techie on a new model.

Rasp. I have peeps who want to investigate a rasping engine so see if a fix can be done seeing as VW are abandoning these early engines with no recall mod. They are good mechanics (ex VW trained) and come with excellent recent reputation since setting up their own business. If you are willing, I will put you in touch.

Chris

The guy was even a bit off with me when I phoned for an update.

Not happy at the moment.

adam the engine is not from the mk5 golf, i know we all get p#ssed off with dealer service but people do have to also remember it aint a volume product so yours could be the first they have seen with the issue

I have to say to be fair I can't diss the dealer, they have allways booked me in sraightway and I can understand the frustration they must have.

I have it back now they didn't do anything more just ran loads and loads of tests and reset the light again and took it on a few test drives.

I have to test it now. Have to say I am not sure if all the power is there, will be going out for a longer drive shortly.

Back in the dealers now and I have a hire car through VW Assit (a grubby Passat diesel with 103bhp  )

Hope its third time lucky, stressing me out a bit now.

Still at the dealers :-(

Apparently they are trying to replace the manifold sensor and see if that works...

They aren't returning any of my calls and I got told to "stop calling them" today after my second call about 3 hours after leaving them a message to phone me back with an update.

Not happy! :( :( :(

go in adam, you are completely within your rights to want an update on your car seeing as its your very expensive car therefore they shouldn't be so dismissive, even if they can't tell you anything exact anything ie. them giving you some ideas of what they think it might be & what they have tried so far or if they have referred it to a higher power/are waiting on a response from x y z is ALOT better than being rude.

Thats my next step. My main concern was the hirecar they have given me has on the documentation it was supposed to be off hire today at 5pm. I was told - "thats not for me to worry about"

I am really upset I love the Roc but I have had many cars, mostly BMW and Honda and have never been treated this badly before. This is the most cash I have ever spent on a car too. Its no wonder VW dealers allways come so low in satisfation surveys. Once I have the Roc back I will number one not be taking back to this dealers ever, number two be writing a letter to VW number 3 consider getting rid of it.

I think it would be shame to get rid of it but i can see exactly where you coming from, if there is clearly something wrong with the car surely they will have to give a temp car for a more long term basis but that is not very fair seeing as you ordered a roc and will more than likely not a have a roc as a hire car
