Hey,
My vw is 2010 1.4 tsi 160hp with 190k kilometers on it
Last week the epc and the engine light turned on and the car started shaking, went to my mechanic and we changed the coils and the spark plugs but it didnt help
The computer says 'cylinder no. 4 misfire' without any other information, and the mechanic think the engine is dead, what do you think? Is dead or still savable?

Based on the information you have provided, I would have a compression test done on all the cylinders and in particular Cylinder 4, if that's where the misfire is originating from. My guess is that cylinder 4 will have low compression caused by a cracked piston. It's not uncommon on the 1.4 twincharged engine of that era.

Solution is either to rebuild your existing engine or replace it with a second hand engine, preferably a later one, which is not as prone to this issue.

It could also be a faulty injector in cylinder 4. You could swap the injector over with one from another cylinder and see if the misfire follows the injector or remains on cylinder 4.

Forum member "Blower" is somewhat of an expert on this engine therefore if he doesnt chip in with his views on this thread, I would drop him a message for some input / advice.
