Six MONTHS?!

Just a word of warning/ shock - called my garage (Colbournes in Guildford) to check on the progress of my order as my scrappage car chose this morning to throw its' toys out of the pram and all its' coolant onto the A3 (please don't be a head gasket....). I explained that I wasn't hassling, but that I need to know how long I needed my car to last before the Scirocco arrives.....conversation went something like this:

"Well, your lead time will be 3-4 months from your order date"

"I know, but I'm just asking if you can check the system as I don't want to shell out too much on repairs if I don't have to"

"fair enough....what did you order?"

"Scirocco"

"Oh Gosh"

*didn't think that sounded good.....sure enough....

dealer "You might be waiting 6 months for one of those at the moment"

Suffice to say I pointed out (politely) scrappage scheme etc....at which time he assured me that they would be able to fill the order within 4 months or thereabouts as otherwise they wouldn't have taken it. Why am I not convinced......

But yeah, anyone thinking of ordering one........try and find one in a showroom!!! (if there are any). Otherwise you'll end up older and grumpier!

You probably will get in within 4 months. Scrapage deals are given priority.

It could be worse...

I have now been waiting since May for my Candy White 2.0 tsi, it is due on October 10th.
Anyway, I arrive home from work late last night and what is sitting on my next door neighbours drive? Arrrggggghhhhhh! A 2.0 tsi in Rising blue! That's the first I've seen in my town aswell! It could have been worse, he might have got a White one!

Neighbour, are you on here????

The scrappage deal is a total con - from last Feb the Scirocco went up in price about £850, and there's another rise due in Sept for a similar amount - it seems that everyone is paying for this scrappage "deal" - VW will be getting their £1000 scrappage allowance contribution back in spades!

The pound has been crap against the euro for a long time now - at least from since when the Scirocco was launched and the original pricelist was devised, so I don't count that as the main reason for these rises. The pound has made small gains against teh euro from the start of 2009.

Yes, I know all the big car makers are doing it - but doesn't it seem too much of a coincidence that all these price rises kick in when the scrappage scheme is announced, yet there's no negative movement of the pound against the euro in that time period? Just wait until the pound recovers (the euro is artificially strong at the moment) - i'm sure VW, Ford et all will be just rushing out price cuts for the UK again.
