Buying advice

Post by bflare »

Hello. After owning a Seat Leon FR for 4 years I am finally looking to change. I was originally considering a BMW 1 Series or maybe an Audi A3 until I spotted a Scirocco 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Tech GT. After reading a few reviews I am really interested in buying one now. I absolutely love the styling & they appear to be pretty reliable & good on fuel. I have seen a mention of the high-pressure diesel fuel pump having issues which can be expensive & tyre wear but apart from this no major issues. Could anyone tell me what I should look out for? When is the cam belt / chain required to be changed? Are the published fuel figures accurate? Anything else to look out for? I am looking at a 2011 / 2012 model & I do around 20k miles a year so I think the Diesel would be better for me. Thanks.

Diesel Scirocco has a cambelt and the recommended schedule to change it is 120k miles / 5 years, although the time interval is a VW UK recommendation.

I have a 2011 170PS (168bhp) and it averages over 50mpg without really trying therefore I would expect the 140PS (138bhp) to be closer to 60mpg average.
