Engine swap with wrong engine code?

Firstly hello to everyone & I hope you can help,
I posted this in the Tech section, but not sure if it should be here?
I'm looking for some advise, I have a 2010 2.0 TSi CCZ Scirocco and the engine requires changing (hole in block!) Could I fit a CAW or different engine code from a similar aged car, and just swap all the electronics from my old engine to the replacement? I find it hard to believe the cylinder heads, blocks & internals are all different from code to code, surely it would be to big an increase in manufacturing costs?
