Scirocco Central

I've recently bought a 2016 Scirocco R. I'm looking to replace the exhaust system, however I've realised that the off-side exhaust is split into two sections when looking at it from front on. Can anyone tell me why this is, and would it have an effect if I was to replace it to just one whole exhaust as on the other side?

I have swapped my exhaust for a BCS powervalve system and that has single pipes on both sides.
