Maintenance Regime

So I'm wondering what would be the best way to maintain my cars protection.
I get the: wash, decontaminate, polish, wipe down, seal. Process.
But what about when I am not polishing my car and just want to top up the protection?
I don't want to clay it if I am not polishing. But likewise I don't want to rub wax applicator pads over my paint or use my DA to apply sealant, if it hasn't been decontaminated. As surely I will pick up bits of crap and rub them all over my paint?
Any ideas?
