Hello,
I have a VW Scirocco, 2.0 Tsi 2012 38k mileage.

I have read that I should change the Cambelt after 3 years but I was wondering if there was a mileage guide On when to change it?
Thanks.

The 2.0 TSI is a chain driven engine which in theory should last the life of the engine. I assume this is what you have based on your profile.

However, the R model and diesel models are belt driven and the recommendation is that they are replaced every 5 years or 120k miles

Hi

My 2011 Scirocco 2.0 Tsi has 39000km and I have just changed my tensioner/timing chain and all the relevant gaskets and guides

You need to find out if you have the new or old spec tensioner, the old spec fails on cold start and you end up bending valves.

Unfortunately mileage has nothing to do with this, hence I took the precaution as I have seen many Rocs and Golf 6 GTi's incur this problem.

As an absolute ignoramus about such things, could someone please confirm what I need to think about as regards belts on my 58/2009 2.0 petrol?

Apologies for such a "newby" question!

TSI does not have a timing belt.

Only an aux belt.

That will be the "toothed belt" mentioned in the service manual then! Thanks.

No, the manual is generic and covers models with cambelts and camchains. The toothed belt is in reference to the cambelt, which as said already is not applicable to your car.

The auxiliary belt is not a toothed belt it's a ribbed belt and has no recommended change interval but should be inspected periodically and changed if necessary.

Thanks for that. As someone whose knowledge of mechanical things wouldn't fill an egg cup I appreciate this.
