I am fuming about my build date!

Can you guys tell if this is par for the course

I had an email from my VW dealer today to tell me when my build week is. Let me set the scene...

I ordered my car on 30 June 2009 with Broadspeed. They told me the build time estimate would be 10-12 weeks. Happy. This was one of the main reasons I gave them my business.

They then put me in touch with a VW dearler in Scotland who told me the delivery estimate would be about 14 weeks. I was a bit disapponited but decided to go ahead. I then paid them a £1,000 deposit to secure my car.

Two weeks have now past and I get this email (which I had to prompt them for), from the VW dealer in Scotland, informing me that my car is scheduled for build week 43 :rage:

So that now puts it at 17-18 weeks until the build and then another [I'm guessing here] 4 weeks to inspect, sign-off, transport and deliver, that's 22 weeks total. That's double what I was quoted. Is this average?

I feel I've been hoodwinked by Broadspeed and my assigned VW dealer in Scotland. They promised a short build time in order to secure my order. That is underhand in my book.

I sent then an angry email to bollock them this afternoon. Shortly after, the manager called me to tried to pacify me with stories of how VW are limiting production of the Scirocco to keep it a niche product blah blah blah. I was having none of and he knew it. All they're going to do is call me back in two weeks and tell me if they've been successful in pulling my order forward. I've got more change of seeing the loch ness monster.

Am I right to feel aggrieved?
Please help me out 'cos I'm fit to blow :bang:

Cheers Guys

I suspect the dealer is probably as frustrated as you are - from other posts I've read, dealers have an allocation of 1 Scirocco per month so lead times have gone to 16 weeks+. I can't see why VW are doing this - surely if the demand's there they shouldn't be cutting production at the factory etc. etc.

Edit - just noticed in your profile, you've gone for a 1.4 - those engines are in major demand with the new Polo launch especially so VW will be juggling allocation of the engines to all models using them, so that possibly won't help your build date.

Gary

I am in the same position, I ordered through Broadspeed a week or so before you & have been advised today that they are now expecting a delay (week 45 build) this has mixed blessings for me as my current car is being used for scrappage  & i will have to pay to re-mot at the beginning of sept  so that i can get about, but i turn 25 in oct so my insurance will come down

I am not at all happy about the delay but not long after us placing our orders everything has gone crazy. Broadspeed can not really be held at fault as they weren't to know that 1) demand for 1.4 engines was going to be so high & 2) vw were going to mess with their production levels.

I personally plan on monitoring the situation of the scrappage scheme very carefully & keeping on top of my dealer to push as much as possible at every opportunity so that they want to give me my car as soon as possible & shut me up
getting angry doesn't solve much as its not really in the dealers hands

EDIT: I have just spend a reasonable amount of time constructing a carefully worded email to my broker stating some handy facts & assumptions so lets see what his response is.....

Hi, Guys

The TSI in the Polo is a new 1.2 unit so it should not effect Scirocco production

However they have just started putting the 125 HP 1.4 (Just turbo, not twincharged) in the A3 so this might take a few units
