Help!! Steering!?

Hi all,

Basically when I accelerate, lightly or foot to the floor, the cars pulls to the right and i'm pretty confident this is not torque steer.

I recently swapped my rear wheels with the fronts to try and maximise tread life on the tyres (Pirelli P Zero's).

I noticed it after doing this, the wheel are all balanced and I dont think the tracking is out.

When lifting off of the accelerator the car stops pulling right and almost feels like it sometimes wants to make its way to the left.

Really stumped on this one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Is this behaviour consistent and predictable now i.e. you can generate it at will, or is it intermittent?

If it is consistent, why not put the tyres back round the way they were before the problem i.e. "today's front tyres" revert to the rear axle & vice versa. Then go for a test drive and "generate" the problem? If it does not occur with the tyres back in their old arrangement, then this implies it is the tyre situation causing the difficulty.
If it continues to play up with the tyres in their old locations, then at least you have eliminated the "swapped tyres" as a potential cause (and could have the rubber back where you want it).

Agree with Deagol and also check that the wear across and around the old rear tyres is even. Rears frequently become ridged on the inner edge.

Yes - as above, when you put rears onto the front, it always changes the handling characteristics initially because the rears clearly have differnent wear characteristics as opposed to the steering front wheels. Over time the fronts will acclimatise to their new wear regime and the symptoms you describe should go away. Will probably take a couple of thousand miles first though.

Last year I put new tyres on the rear and moved my old rears to the front, for sure it did change the handling a little, but not to the extremes you have described.

Thanks for the replies people!

Much appreciated!

I will try and swap them back at some point this week and see how that goes! :D
