Strange voltage drop in car.....need help

Posted: Tue Oct 04, 2016 5:48 pm

hy,

I have a strange voltage drop in car....It all started around when I Installed and turned on (with VCDS) passinger and drivers LED lights.

They work fine, very bright light and it looks awsome to me.

The problem is that my trunk button in the doors has stopped working(I can opet trunk with key only), my windows wont go down anymore by themself when I hold a bit longer the button, but I have to hold it all the time....

I did the autoscan wit VCDS, and there are some fault codes, not just for the doors, but also for the radio, abs, steering wheel.....common to all them is somekind of voltage lower limit exceeded....

Is it possible that my LED lights are drawing too much voltage so my other electric things are failing?

One thing I did wrong I admite, is that when I was working plugged in with vcds, my car battery died, and I had to charge it...

Next day I replaced the new baterry( I was atending anyway to do that), but the problem is still there......maybe when baterry died, somethin went wrong?

cars stars fine, and drives normally...,,,didnt check the fuses thou

Can you hel me with those fault codes?
Here is copy/paste of scan:

How did you connect the wires? With scotch locks?
Sounds like a short circuit or bad connection.

I see you have replied to my other thread under "Lights", where you asked me why do I want to disable the lights? :D

Where there is your answer why:D

http://imageshack.com/a/img923/3151/qg5hZ5.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see on this picuture how does the end of wire look like, I just put that end into the conector in the doors, following instructions on this forum from the other member who did the same thing and it works.

I think the connection is oke.....maybe if I disconnect all again and erase the faults, everything will be oke?

When my battery died, and I tried to charge it again, did that messed something up?

I think you need to check your coding for the drivers door. It looks like you changed it to 64 rather than adding 64 to the original value. This will give you the issues you are seeing with the boot lid switch, and possibly some issues with the mirror as well (heating, lighting, folding etc.).

As for the low voltage, did you have the interior lights and radio on while you fitted your new units? They may have been on long enough to cause the voltage drop that has been logged. If that's the case take it for a 15min drive to top up the battery then clear the faults.

edit: Just read that your battery died while coding. this is likely to be the cause of your voltage warnings as the car would have tried to turn off as many non-essential systems as possible to keep the battery going.

Damit......yes, I have erased the original coding and wrote 0000064.....

So what I had to do was just adding 0000064 to original code?(without zeros?)

this is the picture from other member here who was showing coding of those LED door lights....

Image

cant remember the orginal coding, was 0021366 as in the picture original?

so the coding had to bi something like.......0021366+64(without +?, or with zeros?)

How do I return everthing back to normal hahahha?

As long as you haven't changed laptops since you did the original coding then you should have a log of all the changes made on your laptop. You'll need to find this folder I think by default its somewhere in c:\ross-tech\ (i'll check later) and get the original coding from there. Once you have that add 64 to the original number and code the module with the new number. That should get everything working properly in the door again.

Oke, I will look into it.....

And yes, its the same laptop...

isnt the original coding the same for all Sciroccos, or is it unique for each one?

They will be broadly similar, but it does depend on which options you have. You can have a reasonable guess by looking at the screenshot you posted above and then adding up the numbers for each option you have. I'd recommend looking for the original coding first though as there may be some undocumented values.

For example the code 21366 means the below features are installed:

Ambient Mirror Illumination installed
Mirror Turn Signals installed
Automatic Run active
Mirror Heating installed
Door Exit/Warning Light installed
Seat Memory AND/Or Mirror with Memory Function installed
Right Hand Steering
Folding Mirrors installed (MY 2008+)

there only a log that I tried to change the 0000064 code to 21366 code......which did nothing ofc...

so I can copy that long code to window which is under the icon "long code helper" ?

In adress 9?

oke here is the funny thing......as I said, i have changed the 0000064 coding to 21366 as I thought that is orginal code. For the passinger door only.

what happined next, the window on only passinger site went up and down but the button was reverse! :hehe:

and it go up and down without holding the button (probablly the automatic Run whic is in 21366 code :hmmm:

next thing was that the window wouldnt drop down a bit when you wanted to unlock or open the door of the car....

I return back the passinger side to 0000064 and its oke now.....but still the same problem with boot and they wont go down by themself when holdin a button a bit longer....

so it looks like the problem is really in coding as you sad before....

The coding is all in module 42 and 52, not in module 09.
Next time make a picture before you change anything :)

Komar wrote:oke here is the funny thing......as I said, i have changed the 0000064 coding to 21366 as I thought that is orginal code.

OK, let's try and get this straightened out for you.
Driver and passenger doors will not necessarily have the same coding as each other.

You've already given me some information about what is and isn't fitted to your car, so we can have a go at rebuilding the coding.

Passenger door (module 52)
Mirror Turn Signals installed = 4
Automatic Run active = 16
Mirror Heating installed = 32
Door Exit/Warning Light installed = 64
Base coding (all the ones I've seen have this) = 16384 +
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = 16500
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you try setting the coding of module 52 to 0016500 and let me know what features do and don't work.

Drivers door (module 42)
Rear Lid Remote Unlock Button (E233) = 1
Mirror Turn Signals = 4
Automatic Run active = 16
Mirror Heater installed = 32
Door Exit/Warning Light installed = 64
Base coding (all the ones I've seen have this) = 16384 +
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = 16501
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you try setting the coding of module 42 to 0016501 and let me know what features do and don't work.

hopefully that should get you most of the way there. If the steering wheel is on the right hand side of the car you will need to add 512 to both of those figures before coding them.

Let me know how you get on.

Yes, everything is working as it should now :)

thx very much guys, you have been very helpfull...

I have deleted all the faults and I will auto scan again after first drive, so we will see the scan then...

You can really mess things up with vcds if you dont know what are you doing :D
But, I have learned a lot about coding and stuff..

I'm glad to hear it's all working properly again. It's always a good idea to make a copy of the original values before you make a change then you can quickly put it back if things don't work as expected.
