I'm hoping its a re-gas... but seems odd it was fine a couple weeks ago ...

Any common issues with air con on these cars to check first?

Will be plugging VCDS in later on tonight.

Condensor is a common failure as it's located in a vulnerable position. Pressure switches and compressors are also known to fail.

Any idea which MBV's to check with VCDS if no fault codes shown?

Useful info.

Also worthwhile checking that the compressor pulley is still correctly attached - I've had 2 fail.

Check the bolt/screw in the center is there and tight, if its not there then you have a problem, if its there and with the engine running its not spinning you have a problem.

Bolt is loose ... :)

Saw it straight away! ... I assume I just tighten it up?

Bolt won't tighten up ... not what I expect on a 6 year old car.

Done some research and this is very common on the Delphi aircon compressors.

The bolt comes loose, it then shears the splines off the clutch plate ... hence the clutch no longer turns with the pulley ...

Turns out you can buy a repair kit for £30 ... so that's now on order.

:)

I'm getting a very slight whistle/metallic grinding noise when the Air Con is switched on. As soon as you switch it off the noise stops. Also, if you rev the engine it will stop for a short time. I had thought it was the aux belt starting to slip, but could it be this bolt starting to fail instead? Mr OCD, do you have the part number/link for the kit you bought? I'd like to see what is included.

Thanks,

Looks like a good kit and easy fix. Need to have a look and see if this is what is causing my grinding noise.

It's definitely my problem ... however despite loosening all the bolts and the clutch being loose I can't remove it off the compressor shaft ...

Sounds odd, it should be a simple matter of removing the 3 bolts around the outside and the center fixing and it should come off, maybe try some leverage from 2 sides at the same time.

This is what my old compressor looks like with it removed

I've been prying it with screwdrivers, etc for the last hour ... it's not budging.

All three screws out and center bolt ...

I've just soaked it in plus gas ...

Looks like I'm going to need a clutch puller ...
