1.4 tsi Engine Rebuild?

As previously posted my car has developed the dreaded misfire and cylinder 2 has low compression which going off what I've read on here... Is bad bad news.
Is there any way it could be something less serious than cracked Pistons etc.
Also I'm hoping the law helps me with regards to the consumers rights as I've only had the car 4 months so the garage I got the car from should, and hopefully will fix the car, failing that how much roughly would a rebuild cost?
Would a rebuild be beat instead of buying another engine and risking the same again?
Sorry for all the questions I don't know where else to turn to about this problem, thanks in advance everyone much appreciated!

Its is most likely the piston has scored the cylinder wall.
What nearly always (might as well say always as I've not seen different in every 1.4 tsi failure that has low compression with misfires), is that the piston cracks on the ring land area, leaving sharp fragments of piston scoring the cylinder wall.
Usually you can have the cylinders rebored and new, slightly larger pistons fitted.
A set wossner forged, 77mm pistons to be used on a rebore (the stock are 76.5mm) are about £800. These are actually cheaper overall if you had bought the ones from VW, being forged and wossner - they are far superior and stronger.
So assuming the cylinder head is ok (no fragments have smashed into the valves), you would be looking at about £800 for the pistons, £200-£300 for the rebore.
You will need about another £150-£200 in gaskets, seals and bolts.
Labour wise you are looking at probably 20 hours - so about £1000-£1500. Total all in I reckon in the region of £2500-£3000.
A rebuild, when done properly, with forged pistons will beat buying another engine as the forged pistons are a lot stronger. I would also get the cylinder head valves and intake cleaned whilst its off.

I had the full rebuild done after mis firing on cylinder 4, cracked piston, £2408 from a garage I've used for 10 years plus and trust, main dealer wanted to take engine apart to investigate but I know from my experience with main dealer when my dsg went once your cars in bits they've got u by the balls on their labour charges so went with indi. Evidentially these engines are not quick to come apart lots of bits have to come off in a certain order. I paid for it off my own back as VW laughed me off and said unless I went to a dealer they wouldn't look at any good will. Despite only having 22k miles at time. Joke. Good luck. VW seem to be wearing their best Teflon suit on this one, nothing sticks.
