VW Media Cable

Hey people,
At the moment I stream music via Bluetooth, but I just wondered if there is any advantage to buying and using the media cable? the cheap cables off ebay state that they transmit audio only and no song info, but just wondered if the official cable lets you do anymore than Bluetooth?
