Steering wheel squeaking ?

Hi anyone else notice a squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel when stationary position ??
Is that normal ?
Or is it a steering rack issue ?
I have a scirocco r 2011 plate.

I think it's unlikely to be the rack.
My guess would be one of the following;
1. Mis-aligned trim causingvrubbing.
2. Universal joint in steering column needs a bit of lubrication.
3. Dirt in the slip ring.

Presume that would be covered by warranty ??
I only had the car over a month from VW dealership and only recently started doing it..

In my car the same noise started this week. I thought it was some rubbers or even a heat protection-cover issue. Have you have any further info about your car?

This is the noise I have. It is like a metalic spring being compressed. Any suggestion?

Had the same problem...
its the heat protection-cover(exhaust cover).......just get under i pull the protection up a bit.....

You were right Komar. It was the same problem. I only touched the heat shield and the problem disappeared. Strange because there is no touch condition around this heat protector. Maybe it was only caused by the vibration.

I don't know how to post a photo but it is easy to find the heat shield. You have a thin aluminium metalic sheet covering the steering box. If you go below the car at the front axis area you see this.

You are looking inside the car. The plastic parts that you refere are the 2 Steering Column Covers. You need to go outside and look under the car, at the middle from the 2 front wheels. Maybe it is dificult because you have no space to go there but you can use a jack to get more space there.
