Rds510 with mdi port Apple lightning adaptor cable

Hi, can anyone help me as when I plug in my IPhone 5 it will only charge through the mdi adaptor port and it disconnects me from the stereo system when previously connected via Bluetooth.
In the manual it say that when plugged in I should be able to connect to the head unit and a separate menu should appear for accessing my Apple device.
Also, can anyone point me in the direction of updating my sat nav / maps? Are there any downloads / websites I can get this from?
