Error Code P2008

Morning Guys,
Sorry if you have seen this elsewhere.
I had my intake manifold changed by an indie. I think he just stuck to the task at hand tbh, he changed the manifold and did nothing else. It now throws up this error code:

Code: Select all

008200 - Intake Manifold Flap; Bank 1
P2008 - 000 - Electrical Malfunction
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100000
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 84186 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2010.06.19
Time: 04:03:22

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 981 /min
Load: 26.7 %
Speed: 0.0 km/h
Temperature: 95.0°C
Temperature: 39.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar
Voltage: 11.176 V
Drive-ability isn't affected at all, but every error code worries me. I have done some googling, but that doesn't help much, as there isn't any concrete solution. I am yet to run a "basic settings" in VCDS, and I might try that though.

Just additional info for anyone who might be able to help.

Most of what was said online involved "check the wiring", well, I dont know how to do that; but coincidentally, I got my tyres changed, and the guy from kwikfit (who had changed my tyres a few times) was very curious about the old manifold I had in my boot. So we got talking and I told him about the code.. I hadnt actually had time to look at the manifold in detail, but I did as he was asking. I found the two connectors, and we decided to give it a check... The connector (or what appears to be a connector) on the bank 4 side of the manifold (see picture) has NO CONNECTOR in it.

My question is - is there meant to be a connector at this location?!?!?! I hope someone knows...

Also, having a look at my manifold, it doesnt look very dirty or gunky at all... I also didnt realise all four flaps run on the motor to the side, which means it's impossible for just one flap to get stuck... This makes me think the manifold gives false errors.

Are you sure it is a motor? There should be a vacuum chamber that operates the flaps. The MK5 golf had a motor but this was replaced by the vacuum chamber system. Can't see under the manifold on my GTI clearly enough to check the connectors - sorry.

This video may help? https://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/searc ... ction=view" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wrong use of terminology, I meant the vacuum chamber that operates the arm. What I was trying to put across was that they are all operated by the same arm. I called the mechanic today, and he said the intake he removed from my car was in pretty good condition. He thinks my remap might have thrown some "ghost codes" into the system. But he'll try to sort it.

Also, I did watch that video earlier today Joe, no clues in that. At no point was a connector removed or reinstalled in that position.

They don't put a connector housing on it when it's not needed. So the mechanic probably forgot to reconnect it. Can't you see a loose connector? One is for the vacuüm motor regulator (missing) and the other one for the position sensing of the swirl valves.

That's what I thought - that there wouldn't be a connector housing if not needed.
Can't feel a loose connector at all. Wouldn't a loose connector give an "open circuit" error?

I was thinking the same, normally you get another fault code.
Maybe you can look with a flashlight or mobilephone camera to look underneath the intake and find something?

I think I will give that a try :). Mechanic has said I should bring it back in anyway. Thanks for your help guys

The saga is over!! You are right (and as I suspected) there was meant to be a connector on the vacuum motor side that he forgot to plug in! he just had to remove the airbox to get to it. 50 mins in traffic was the only cost ;)

It does!!! Happy with fitting the new intake. Thanks for your help as well Roy :), you info was very good.

Do you know why I didnt suffer any (apparent) loss of power though? Quite surprising that everything seemed to work ok apart from the MIL being on

When i see the picture above I think the intake valves were far enough open so no loss of power.
And the positionsensor of the valve was connected. So no emergency engine programm i guess?

Glad it is all sorted without too much hassle. When I watched the video to change the manifold the number of connectors put me off a DIY attempt!!

What put me off what the number of bolts and the number of vacuum+fuel lines that were coming out. I could just imagine myself not sealing something properly
