Scirocco tdi clutch

hi there I bought a 2011 scirocco tdi 140 in November last year and the other day the clutch seems to have just stopped working, it's got 52k on the clock.
near where I stay we've had some pretty bad flooding recently and yeah I obviously had to go through the odd big puddle but it wasn't till the next day it just wouldn't go into gear, there was no sign the clutch was on its way out, slipping or anything.
I got the dealer to pick it up that I bought it from and have a look but they reckon it's the clutch that's gone before even looking at it
anyone have any ideas if it could be the clutch that's gone or what else it could be? would just be to give me an idea if I'm gonna have to fork out for a new clutch or just a cheap part
