Scirocco Central

I had Goodyear F1 Eagle tyres on the rear of my 2009 2.0 TDI Scirocco and was advised on a service that they were mis-shaped.
Up on looking at the tyres the inner bit of tread on the rear tyres had been worn away but not like I'd seen before.
The tyres had almost gone like the shape of a 50p coin on the inside of both rear tyres.
I had clipped the curb quite hard about 12 months ago so when new tyres were put on 400 miles ago I had kwick fit check the tracking and camber which needed doing so they adjusted it all and I thought that was it.
Well it's happening again but this time I've fitted budgets as I didn't want to take a chance on the car destroying a decent set of tyres on the rear.
I've taken the car to another garage called Pro Tyre Guppa P here in Plymouth, who checked the car over on their 4 wheel tracking machine to report back that no adjustment was needed as the camber & toe in/out is spot on.
VW can't find any suspension faults either and gave the car a clean bill of health last week.
My father reckons my Mag ride dampers may be shot and causing the problems but are the mag ride dampers known to go wrong often? the car has 93k on it but has been well looked after.
Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you do a search you will see it's a common issue. VW only solution is that you regularly rotate the tyres front to rear to minimise the effect.

It's not unique to the Scirocco or in fact down to the electrically controlled dampers, it's down to the platform and the standard rear geometry settings.

By the way the Scirocco doesn't use magnetic dampers as used by Audi but an electrically controlled valve.

Hi Cuprabob thank you for the info, just found on another site the VW uses a DCC Adaptive system that uses a valve to control the ride stiffness so isn't like I thought it was. I'm guessing if it's a common issue I'm gonna have to live with it as the car is great apart from the tyre wear.

History; 2.0 TDI DSG '61 plate, Bought car at 23K > soon noticed oscillation > rear tyres deformed > replaced > repeat scenario at 10K - > rear tyres deformed - Repeat scenario

This is becoming expensive. I am no mug when it comes to driving with vehicle sympathy and understanding vehicle dynamics but I am flummoxed as to why this is happening. I am throwing away tyres that are only down to 5mm

I cover circa 25k miles pa albeit 80% miles on motorways and dual carriageways.

Q1; anyone else experienced the same
Q2; what may be the cause
Q3; remedial action that works

Clearly I don't know the answer and feeling like a chump, any suggestions chaps?

I would get a full 4 wheel geometry set up done and see if that helps.

Also, some tyres seem to be more prone to it than others. I'm still on my original rear P Zeros and I'm coming up to 57K miles on them. I do get a bit of droning a certain speeds but I just live with it.

Thank you chaps. Has geometry settings checked when penultimate tyres replaced. report all was very accurate. Guess I'll have to live with it. . .
