Headlight washer "doors" broken - warranty or not?

Both of these broke off, within the 3 year warranty

Image

The local dealer (Brighton area) says it's not covered.

The dealer it came from (Midlands) says not covered.

But they would say that.

What seems to have happened is that a plastic hinge broke. The hinge is just a piece of soft plastic which *will* break off eventually. It's hard to believe this is "wear and tear".

What is the rough cost?

There is no way that is a wear and tear item.

If it was a wear and tear item it should be on the service schedule - it is not, so it is covered and would be covered for the 3 years.
It's like saying the doors are not covered if they fell off. The headlight washers should last the life of the vehicle and that includes all parts - the headlight washes are an MOT item since you have xenon's, if they don't work properly its an MOT fail.

Threaten them with legal action under the sales of goods act - they will soon start playing ball.

OK, thanks :)

The washers do work; just the door that broke off. The door was blue (obviously) and the hinge is the white component in the photo. Curiously both broke off, within a month of each other.

Who would one threaten? The local dealer, or VW HQ? They must have their hands full with this emissions scandal... I wonder if we are affected?

They may work now, but the doors are more than just aesthetic, they protect the nozzles.

Anyway i would start with the dealer first - just for the sake of speed and hassle....if they still refuse then a letter to VW head office, address below:

Volkswagen Customer Quality
Yeomans Drive
Blakelands
Milton Keynes
MK14 5AN

It might also be worth piggy backing on the whole VW scandal with a threat of bad publicity if this is how they treat a customer in warranty when bits start falling off the car.
Also don't accept any 'part goodwill', you are entitled to a complete repair, free of charge.

And then thow into the mix that they miss sold you a car by faking the emissions and you will sue them.

One of mine fell off on my old Roc but it was out of warranty, was searching for a replacement ready painted for ages as stealers wanted £26 for the bit of plastic and £75 to paint it. managed to find one ready painted on Ebay from Latvia, came in 2 days and was less than £10 including postage and easy to fit yourself. Once I have located the correct dedicated fuse for the headlight washers I am taking it out so i dot get the same problem on my new Roc. For the time being I just turn the headlight switch to '0' when operating the windscreen washers and the headlight washers dont function on this setting. Ive heard you will have even more problems in the winter when the covers freeze and are even more likely to pop off if operated.

2 x 26 quid is not enough for me to bother with. I was worried it might be hundreds...

It won't be painted but one can just aerosol-spray it.
