Scirocco R - New Purchase (lease or buy)

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, here's my story. Back in October I found myself wanting a Scirocco in rising blue. Not having any knowledge of the different models, I test drove and nearly purchased a standard 2.0 tdi. I didn't because I knew it didn't look quite as good as some of the others I'd seen. The MPG was attractive and low annual car tax but I figured if I'm spending this much money I want to be really happy.
A few months passed and by this point I was more than familiar with the differences, lots of research (addiction to looking at Scirocco's) and my thoughts were that I'd purchase a GT but by the time I'd completed the build, leathers etc, the R-line seemed like the best option.
CarWow offer some really good deals and so I test drove the R-line earlier this month, and yes it's really nice, has some power but it's just, well not the R. At this point there's no doubt about it, it's all about the R.
This last week I've been shopping around, numerous emails to dealers, telephone calls and messages through CarWow and here's my predicament...
Through What Car it seems that you can lease a Scirocco R with 8,000 miles per annum for £345.50 per month with an initial payment of £1,036.50 (3 months in advance). Out of more than 10 dealerships and offering them a £3,500 deposit, I'm yet to obtain a quote that can beat this, so it seems that leasing is the way to go?

Your post intrigued me as I knew you would mention carwow.
By lease do you mean Hire Purchase? As in pay monthly whilst still owned by the dealership and when its all paid its yours with no balloon payment at the end? If so this isn't a bad way to go provided you can make ALL the payments otherwise they can take the car from you and still make you pay the rest.
There's also a clause in this that when 2/3rds of the car are paid off then in theory its yours until you pay it off and they fully sign it over!
I was playing around with carwow and can't fault the service they offer and as you mention, because they make the dealerships DESPERATE for your order, you get some fantastic prices!

Lease and hire are totally different.
Lease you pay x amount for x amount of months and that's it. At the end you give the car back and you have no car and no equity in the car. Your just paying to drive it for that set time.
Hire is almost the same but instead the payments are usually more per month which then at the end of the contract means the car is payed off and is yours.
You can get some really good lease deals lately. But thing is it will never be yours if you lease it.

Don't buy a car thinking about "what if i don't own it at the end" most people will sell / trade a car in either before its all paid off or just after.
Look at it as an effective monthly cost. If it's a monthly cost (either lease / pcp payments or what it costs after paying it off, maintaining it and selling it etc) you're happy with go for it whatever the agreement

Thanks for all the responses.
I'm still contemplating with the idea of waiting for a 2nd as per my other post but I've been checking for months now a manual with less than 40,000 miles and under 4 years old is difficult to come across. Plus in terms of depreciation, buying new could roughly result in a loss of around £10,000 over 3 years. Buying say 3 years old and then selling at 6 years old, with other costs not covered with first 3 years, servicing, MOT's etc, 'could' also result in a financial loss of around £10,000.
So money on the table, my local dealers are either Oldham, Bury or Manchester and via email they've all pretty much said to me to come in and they'll either match or beat my best quote. Does anybody have any experience with either of those dealerships and recommend one over the other?

£10,000 over three years is only £277.78 pcm.. that's very cheap motoring imo!
Only one I've delt with is Manchester - Inchcape.. I found them difficult to deal with and they weren't flexible at all..

Indeed Andy it is and so given the loss over 3 years could roughly be the same for both, it seems wise to lose this amount of money on a new purchase over a second. Think I've answered my own question here or at least tried to convince myself to purchase a new build. Peace of mind knowing that a previous owner hasn't driven it poorly, in particular down pot holes and aggressively over speed bumps also goes a long way

Are you going via car wow / drive the deal and the like? You won't regret it! I'd love a brand new car! House first though..

I've got a Golf R due in October that I ordered through orangewheels. The supplying dealer is Inchcape Chester, so same group as Manchester, and not too far away, but they wouldn't match the price. I don't like to haggle but got 4k off list going through orangewheels. I always had my Scirocco serviced with Inchape Manchester and found they were quite good and looked after me and the car well.

House first for me too Andy and yeah I'll be going through CarWow, unless a good 2nd comes on the Autotrader. As it stands it's looking like the end of the year when I'll be ready to buy, which hopefully might mean it'll be built and registered with a new 2016 plate, happy days

Brand new would be the way I'd go tbh! First owner and you can pick everything

I have had 4 cars since last July so I have to stick with what I have for the time being [emoji14] - it's not a bad thing. A high spec R32 with a turbo in the pipeline
I won't order a new car until the new Scirocco (if 4wd) or the M2 becomes available
Good luck with your search / buying

Boom, Scirocco R ordered in rising blue, I am so excited. Whilst the plan was to hold off until later this year so that the build date would be around March 2016 and on a new ‘16’ plate, I ended up being offered a good deal so decided to take it. Should be ready for Nov/Dec. Excited is an understatement, never bought a new car before, so happy

What did you end up getting? Would like to know as my car is due to go back soon and I plan on getting an R next.

This is who I have gone with, will feedback on their service once the order is complete and I'm driving about in the R with a big smile on my face ha. I wasn't able to pay extra for the panoramic sunroof which I really wanted but for the price I think it's a small trade off

Just a random input from me: Everywhere I go, people talk of money they lose from buying a car... Ok, fair enough, if you buy a brand new car, it loses the VAT as soon as you take it off the forecourt... But a car is not an investment, it's meant to be a depreciating asset!! The world would be a perfect place if we lost no money on things like cars!
I always think, if you want it and can afford it - Go for it!! and I am glad you did
