Misfire

Ok, people i need your help.

On numerous occasions now i have gone to start my car and it has failed to start.

The procedure i follow is in my car manual. I press my clutch down, turn the ignition once, wait for the dashboard lights to disappear and then turn the ignition fully to start the car and then release the clutch.

It sounds as though the car is just about to start and then it cuts out.

Any ideas what the problem may be? Spark plugs? Battery? Ignition coil?

Maybe air in the fuel pump? Did you change anything on your car? Don't try it to start for to long because it can damage your pump when there is air inside. I see you driving a tdi, you dont have spark plugs or ignition coil lol. If you have vcds you can try to prime the fuel system for a while.

Not changed anything on my car. I did have a flat battery a while ago. Would this make the car not turn over?

If it's difficult to start when cold, the normal culprit would be glow plugs nut at current ambient temperatures they're not doing much work. My guess would be a faulty temp sensor.

First thing to do is get it scanned and see what faults are logged.

Is the warning light of the battery turned on? You would hear it if the battery is dead. I had the same problem one time last week, i think it was air or something in the fuel systems. Just started it for 10 seconds and then it started, very strange. I hadnt drove it for a day.

It normally starts first time when I set off to work in the morning.
It seems to happen the most after I've driven somewhere and then return to my car after some time and start it up.

Ok i have heard that some tuners can fix a hot start problem by changing the software. It has something to do with the starter and engine speed sensor.
But you have to make a log first for possible fault codes so you can exclude other problems.(battery, starter etc) You can try to disconnect coolant temperature sensor and look if this solves the problem. As mentioned earlier.
