Are the standard mats worth specifying or is it better to get aftermarket ones?£70 seems a lot for mats....

What are you coming from? I had a MK5 Golf, and kept the back ones - they're the same part number as the Scirocco, just bought the front ones at the dealership - they were still £53 though!

Punto unfortunately - not sure mats with Punto written on them would be a good idea!!

Mines came with the black rubber VW fitted mats in the front that clip to the floor (I think they say scirocco on them but would need to check).
I did not pay extra for them so I thought they are part of the standard equipment ( however it might just be the dealer was being nice ).
I wont be getting carpet ones because off all the muck and leaves I seem to attract into the car, But I did invest in a small cheap set for the back.

I' ve got both the carpet ones and the rubber ones. The rubber ones says Scirocco on them. The carpet ones are just plane black, so you're probably better of buying some aftermarket cheap ones.
I use the carpet ones for summer and the rubber ones for winter.

If you spec factory-fitted carpet mats, they will be plain black. But if you get the Premium Carpet Mats through the dealer accessories, they have SCIROCCO in white embroidered into them

The premiums do look nice when clean - I bet that logo will be the first thing to attract dirt though! I scotch-guarded my mats, carpet and seats the day I got the car, and the mats are still clean so far.

I will soon be on my 3rd set of premium mats at 3000 miles, the quality is s**t. I had a Golf Gti V and the mats lasted 3 years without a mark on them

I hope you are on your 3rd set of exchanged mats - I wouldn't buy a £53 set of fronts 3 times if they wear that badly - are the dealership ok anbout returns?
What seems to be the issue, wearling through or the peg hole clips coming away?

The premium mats do seem pretty hard wearing and look good. When I found out that my car would not have mats as standard when I was paying £23K, I did complain and they put them in FOC. I know the garage were not too happy with me though after that.

Under the brake and clutch pedal the material has worn down to the backing and yes the dealership replaced them without any fuss, theres no way i'd have paid to have them replaced.
