VW golf gtd gear shift

I don't like the gear shift in the scirocco, its very ordinary, I would of thought VW would give it a nice one like the GTi or the GTD, I'm considering putting the gear shift from the mk6/7. I'm looking at buying the golf ball like gear shift, has anyone fitted one of these or know if they fit?
