Always ask to see tyre damage!!

Post by selleym »

Right some info on a dilemma I had this week might save you!

Noticed this in my tyre this week.

Thought bugger but saw it wasn't pushed all the way in.
So took the tyre off put the spare on drove to the vw garage.(My local does free repairs)

Who told me its beyond repair. So I went to buy new tyres...

Went to get them fitted and asked the guy before to show me the inside of the damaged old one when he took it off.
The fitter came out saying I've put your new tyres on. Nothing wrong with the old ones screw hadn't gone all the way in...

Lol for a start why would you put the new ones on if the old ones weren't damaged..

Anyway me boiling inside

Had a nice chat with the VW service manager.
Got money off my next service equivalent to the price of a tyre and didn't have to pay fitting.
I didn't even buy the tyres from the dealer as I got them online, so I was surprised they gave me that!

The manager was great and understanding.

In future I'll always be asking to see the "damage"!!

We had the same on our Polo recently, screw stuck right in the middle of the tread. I wondered why it was losing about 2 PSI every week.

Took it down to independent tyre place who simply fixed it for £10, no issue with tyre. Damage to a sidewall is instant fail though.
