Tdi going and new R arriving

Well after tons of research on getting some decent power out of my Tdi R Line, I have concluded it isn't worth my money.

Hats off to the guys at Darkside for going further than anyone else of the Tdi tuning, but realistically I cannot justify around £5k-£7k on a big turbo conversion with all the associated bits like diff, clutch, intercooler etc. that is especially when anything above 250bhp I was told I would have to expect smoke.

I have been negotiating with the dealer on trading my 63 plate in and hopefully will sign for a brand new R in white tomorrow. I have gone for manual again and did a deal so I keep my new 20 inch wheels which I love.

If these cars are 280 hp standard, can someone say before I research what I could expect from a revo map and an air intake? I will go higher later but just thinking of the basics straight away to make it more fun than standard.

For all the diesel die hard please feel free to tar and feather me for being a deserter.

Congratulations! Bet you can't wait for the r.
I don't see why people go mad spending that much money on tuning a tdi up. Just buy a r to start with.
A remap would do me personally.

Stage 1 will be 300bhp maybe 310bhp with a good tail wind

Whether the existing CDL files are relevant is another question

Enjoy!

Thanks guys.

The other good thing is I can get involved with more threads as some of the diesel ones aren't so popular. Besides there are tons of you with experience on whats good and whats not worth it.

Do we know ho many members have actually bought a facelift yet?

Congrats on the new purchase! What options did you go for?

The 300bhp mark with a stage 1 map on a old R is what you would be looking at.
However the new shape golf R mk7 on a stage 1 map from revo takes it up to around 370bhp!
Im not sure if the turbo on the new shape Scirocco R is the same as the golf R but just slightly detuned. If it is the same then its highly possible stage 1 could bring the same sort of gains as the mk7 golf R.
Unfortunately I don't think revo has released a map for the new shape scirocco yet

I'm not 100% sure as I believe it was a cancelled order. All I know is the price with the mods should be £36k, but I got £4k off and an extra £1.5k off the finance deal. With the left over in my Tdi the payments are only £6 more than I am paying by starting again for 3 years.

I'm pretty sure they said it had folding mirrors, full sunroof and better diff. Now I looked at the standard specs it looks like it has a diff upgrade as standard so not really sure.

:eyepop: I would be very happy if it could get 350hp+ on a remap, so 370 would be awesome.

Surely someone must have found out about this by now?

The facelift r is 276bhp.
You think a remap is going to take it to 350.
That's 74bhp increase. Highly doubt it. The pre face lift r was about 300bhp on a stage one remap alone.
I'd imagine it would be similar figures to that. So 300-310 .

Sounds good! For £6 extra pcm you will hardly notice the difference and you get a new R  Yeah the standard spec now includes the diff upgrade and DCC.

Get some pics up when you get it :D

Whitedevil if the new shape rocco R does have the same engine and turbo as the new MK7 golf R why shouldn't the new roc see similar gains ? no reason why the golf can gain 70bhp and the rocco cant

It's not the same engine that's why...
wigit wrote:VW standardised all their engine designations as TSI, the Roc R engine is essentially based on the EA113 which dates back to Ed30/S3 but was referred to as CDL with K04 turbo and is belt driven the EA888 refer to chain driven TSI units

Not the same and limiting factor on this engine was always the fuel pump, EA888 pump is stronger hence why Stage 1 makes around 300 mark

The Golf R engine is latest generation EA888 and maps to around 350-360 stage 1, slightly different power delivery as well

You need to spend over circa £2K on hardware to go Stage 2+ to get around 360bhp out of a Roc R, personally I think you need to also spend a similar amount on the chassis to get it to put that power down

Golf R is around 350-360 in Stage 1 for Revo

ah well that's a shame. 70hp gain from a stage 1 would have been nice!

And tbh I can't see a remap alone getting 70bhp . That's alot just from some software.

Well my order went down the drain as the dealer found out the car being offered was not a built in the UK unit as offered.

Not to worry I did a trade in anyway and put down an extra £8k, with the £1.5k dealer finance offer and £2.3k off the RRP.

I now have a Rising blue R on order with 510 head unit, amp upgrade, DSG box, winter pack, folding mirrors and something else I have forgotten already.

I know the Golf R is slightly quicker with the 4wd and extra ponies but it's still not a Rocco and ha 4 doors like my Dads car.

If the day ever comes that I no longer want a coupe I am going to hand in my license. ;)

People claim they get 370bhp with just a map. However a friends stage 1 golf R on the dyno came out with 371bhp with a turbo back and intake

reason the Rocco exists is for people who want a coupe

in reality a stage 1 map isn't optimised for a turbo back, Revo's senior calibration engineer reckons 350-360, worth noting they use a hub dyno so work in wheel horse power when on development as a more level and repeatable playing field

All we need is some data on here from Facelift owners who take the plunge and get a stage 1 and 2 remaps.
