I've just had the car in for a service today, now due to money constraints thanks to unforeseen bills and xmas etc, it has gone 2500 miles over the service interval , is it not a FSH car anymore or ? do i need to get it serviced again in 7500 miles rather than 10000? cheers guys

When your mileage / year gets to the next milestone in the service book. Take it in

The interval is from the previous service, so if you are on Time and Distance regime then get it serviced in 10k miles or 12 months time, whichever occurs first. You can't compensate for the 2,500 miles late by having the next service 2,500 miles early.
You can't do anything now about the late service, just forget about it and service it correctly from now on. A private buyer may query it but if you trade the car in, they won't even notice.
For future reference.VW give 1,000 miles grace on servicing before it impacts.warranty and/or goodwill contributions

Apologies for re-awakening this thread - wondered if anyone knew why my service counter has been steadily counting down in the 100's every time I switch the ignition on from 1600 yesterday at 1200 then today it flashes up SERVICE with the spanner - not entirely sure how it thinks I've done 1200 miles when I've done about 12 - presumably the SERVICE word on ignition means it needs servicing now? I had thought I had easily another month or two as I don't cover many miles. Any thoughts people's? Greatly appreciated!

It depends when it was last serviced and what regime it is on, longlife or fixed. Check your service booklet.
If fixed it's 9,300 miles or 365 days whichever occurs first. So it's not just miles it's also time.
If it's longlife it's variable up to a maximum of 18,300 miles / 24 months.
Also, service counted counts down in steps of hundred.

It was counting down in 100 intervals but was at 1200 yesterday but has just flashed up service today. Was a little shocked

It could have triggeted on time elapsed as opposed to mileage. That's why I say check when the last service was carried out. Could have been 12 months ago, if on fixed regime or 24 months ago, if on longlife regime.

Last service on 14th August 2014 at 12.5k miles now done 20k miles. Guess must be time lapsed then as just over a year.

Yes, it's been time that's triggered the service message

Strange that it said 1200 miles though now changes its mind to immediate . Gotta rush round to get her booked in now. Sigh. Looked through service book and she's been serviced every 3-5k even had spark plugs done already (supposed to be 60k)- got a lumpy idle thought sparks would solve it, guess not. Thanks for coming back to me though.

It's just 2 independent counters counting down miles and time until one triggers the service message. For example, if you only did 5k miles a year the counter would say 4,300 miles one day and flag a service the next day as the 12 months have elapsed.
On the older displays it normally follows the number of miles with the number of days to service. If you press and hold the trip reset button for a couple of seconds it will display mileage and time to next service, if you have highline display.
On newer displays you can see miles and time to service all the time in the vehicle status menu.

Fair comment. Mines 2010 and doesn't show much but haven't tried holding down keys to get readouts- I'll take a look tommorow. Thanks for coming back to me.
