Missfire? under light acceleration

My 2.0 TSI DSG 2009MY Scirocco is stuttering when I've got the accelerator pressed about mid-way down. If I lift off, or push down further the stuttering stops.

At first I thought it might be the DSG undecided trying to swap between gears. However I put it into manual mode and it has the same stutter.

It happens in all gears, and if I leave my foot in a fixed position when it's stuttering the engine warning light will begin to flash. It happens regardless of whether the engine is hot or cold.

I'm guessing it is something to do with the ignition, i've got the car booked in for a service tomorrow and i'm tempted to ask them to replace the spark plugs and coils. I think the plugs are about due to be replaced (67000 miles).

Any help is appreciated, i've checked a few posts and it seems to be pointing towards either ignition or the inlet manifold...

Most likely cause is a coilpack on it's way out. Very common issue.

Took it to Johnsons VW in tamworth for the service today and the service lady said there's lots of fault codes and that they'll need to keep it until Tuesday to investigate further. I asked if they could print the fault codes off for me and she said they're not allowed to provide that information. Also said that the oil sump is corroded and needs replacing for £392?

Any advice on what I should do? I'm currently planning on getting the car back and having a look at it myself and just paying for the service. I'm tempted to replace the spark plugs / coils myself if it's an easy enough job.

Not allowed to give you that information! What a joke! Surely your car, your errors, your information!!?

Girlfriends dad came round and put some new spark plugs in... it's fixed the issue. Looked at the sump and it's barely corroded, going to give it a coat of WD40. Happy i've not had to fork hundreds of pounds out! Might put the money towards a new set of tyres :)

Since it was an easy DIY fix for you, looks like another dealer to avoid!

I'm pretty sure they have to give you the print out if you have paid for the diagnosis scan.

Glad you managed to sort it out yourself though :D

The issue started again, I think the new plugs helped but didn't solve it. I have actually fixed the issue now, it was caused by a faulty coil.

If anyone else has the same issue as me it's quite easy to diagnose. I bought a single coil from Halfords and one by one swapped each coil and drove the car down the road and back. When I took the 2nd coil out I could smell a 'burning electrical' smell, I put the new coil in and the issue was gone.

They coils are really easy to replace, just take the engine cover off and release the wiring they pull right off the top of the spark plug.
