hello

had a 2.0 TSI DSG for a few months and very pleased so far however the rear tyres are very noisy, half worn pirelli (235 40 18)with slight wear on the inner edge but still plenty of tread, can anyone recommend an alternative to reduce the drone?

thanks

Good Year Eagle Asymmetric 2 are a good choice, good performance in both wet & dry and low noise.

Hi , how old are the tyres?- they all get noisier with age- the rubber hardens and will also get noisier as they wear- reduced depth of blocks in the tread, also wider and lower profile mean more noise. I'm on Pirelli Pzeros and they are significantly noisier than they used to be maybe drive it harder wear them out faster?

To add the rear tyres on the Scirocco tend to either suffer from tresd stepping or a sawtooth wear pattern, like most VAG cars, which tends to make them noisier.

Just searched the forums for stepping I'm at kwik fit now and the stepping on tyres is known scirocco problem two sets it's happen to me on now... kwik fit also know that this is a common issue... I've taken a picture Image. Note it's the rear ones it happens to and at a slow speed the noise is noticeable and annoying .

Hell that's like a 50 pence piece, i'd have the alignment check on a 4 wheel hunter alignment (don't bother with any other alignment that's not hunter).....saw-toothing is common on VAG rears but if alignment is out it could be exacerbating the issue.

I had my tracking done twice quite recently and I'm just doing it more often. Funny thing was I went in to change my fronts but they had 4mm still left on them (I had decided to store as backups) but after the stepping was noticed on the rears I moved the fronts to the rear and new fronts tyres. I'll notice if the stepping or saw toothing happens on the rear again after a few thousand. I have had the Goodyear Eagle F1 2 at the back for at least 40000 miles. I wonder if it's because of the tread pattern or maybe more so because they're hard tyres - who knows could be neither and just a design fault. Guys at kwik fit suggest going for the Michelin at the back too, maybe do that just as winter kicks in. Note I have done 180000 in my scirocco now too.

I have Michelins all round - the backs still get saw tooth wear and become noisy after a while.
