Aftermarket parking sensors

I bought my rocco second hand, and these were already fitted by the previous owner.
Apart from looking a bit crap (big white o rings against silver bumper), they're a pain in the arse.
I park with the front up against a wall. When i get back in the car they start to beep as soon as i start the engine, which gets on my nerves if im faffing about with the stereo or whatever before i pull away.
When i start to reverse away from said wall it still beeps, even though its clear behind.
Also, shouldn't the system give a visual indicator on the instrument panel, similar to the way it tells you which door is open etc?
Is there a better upgrade available?
