DRL comes on before engine

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my car - I was waiting in a hospital car park for a couple of hours the other day and turned my ignition on to charge my phone from the cigarette lighter.
I didn't realise the DRL had come on (even though I hadn't started the engine) and the bloody lights drained my car battery.
They've done it since I've had the car and it's becoming annoying now - any ideas why I'm getting this problem or how I can fix it?
I'm happy to have DRL when the engine is on, but not when it's off!
Cheers,
Mat.

DRLs come on as soon as you turn on the ignition. You don't have a fault. They do go off momentarily when the starter is cranking. If it's an issue for you then you need to have them disabled using VCDS. On my car with Xenons I can disable them from the settings menu on the MFD.

Either VCDS or put a separate socket in the rear of the armrest that is permanently live. I needed one for a transceiver radio. Not a difficult job.

thanks guys, didn't realise this was normal. I'd read that DRLs were meant to come on when you run the engine, not before.
Had the same problem at a rainy airshow - wanting to sit in the car with the wipers on and watch the planes go over.
Paranoid I'm gonna run the batteries down if I do this again.
Cheers for the info.
