SHIT!
So I put a pen in the user manual wallet...and I was forced to break hard today, I started hearing a cluncking noise. No idea what it was, then I tried my A/C and it happened again, the noise, everything is fine but I am getting nothing thru the vents. Tried everything on and off, then I googled and came across this post:
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/ ... 45326.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A bit too late for me...I've taken out the glove box but I have no idea where the pen is, I can't see any holes or opening for the pen to disappear in to the heating/cooling module. Any ideas guys?\I thought it would be a bit easier but I guess not, this is what I'm stuck with....
I've googled and can't find any info or instructions on how to get to the primary source of the fan. Someone help please

You don't need to remove the glovebox to remove the heater fan.
1. Get right in the footwell behind and under the glove box, you will see a thin foam/insulation cover.
2. remove the two thumb screws holding the foam cover up.
3. You will then see the fan assembly (amongst other bits and bobs), it looks like a big black plastic pot and has one power connector attached.
4. remove connector and twist the hole fan assembly clockwise about 15 degrees until it frees from its mounting.
5. Its now a case of gentle gigging about to get it to drop out, the biggest obstacle i found was a thick wiring loom that was in the way.
6. Once its out you can plug the connector back in to see if it still works or remove the obstacle.
Hope this helps.

Ahhh, thanks a lot Dubvrs! I will try this on Sunday when I'm next free. I assumed it has to be somewhere down there but I hate prying off trim let alone knowing what to undo and what no to.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Must say, I side with the view on vwatercooled forum that this must be considered a design fault. Why a grille or netting couldn't be used to prevent this sort of thing, I don't know.
What I do know is that I'm usually the kind of person this sort of thing happens to, so I've already been down to Staples for one of them plastic boxes to hold all my odds and sods (cables, 12v sockets, pens etc).
Thanks for the heads up, and I hope you manage to get things sorted without too much hassle and expense.

So I got it out...thanks again Dubvrs!
Odd thing, I'm still missing the pen and 2 blades from the fan. I've put my hand up in to the void and can not find anything. I don't want to do half a job and reconnect it and for it to be damaged again! Any more ideas?
Also, it's probably not great for me to put it back in as it is with a few blades missing, making it a bit unbalanced?
It's a shame you cant just but the fan as a replacement, except for the whole unit.
I did plug it in and it worked fine but I don't want to risk putting it back in without the pen and 2 other fan blades.
A look into the void:

Yup...vibrates like mad now! FFS. Need to source a new motor or somehow get the actual fan...if thats possible.

Take more blades off directly opposite. That should put it back in balance.

That didn't work either. I've been doing ok with it on just minimum when I need it. But the mornings are getting a bit colder so now I need to fork out for a new motor, or get one from a wreck.
I've got a bit of a silly question as I don't use these functions much, but any ideas how I determine if my car has auto climate control or not? Theres a difference of £100 vs. £200 so I want to get it right.
