Scirocco randomly taps in cool weather

Hi all perhaps there's someone on here who may be able to point me in the right direction here. I have a 140 tdi 2009 scirocco, it has quite an alarming intermittent tapping noise which when it happens is coming from the right hand side of the rocker cover when your stood with the bonnet up.
It can be so loud you can here it in the car and it sounds like the old day vauxhalls when their camshafts were on their last legs.
The tapping only happens whilst the car is parked on the driveway with the nose of the car pointing slightly down hill in cool weather.
If it's parked over night on the flat it rarely happens.
When it does happen it taps like crazy for 10 minutes and doesn't make a difference if I pull it off the driveway or drive it down the road the tapping noise just carries on then disappears once the engine has been ran for a while.
I've done an oil change using a genuine VW oil filter and the proper castrol edge oil which got rid of it for a week n a half but it's back again.
I've had several suggestions like possible weak oil pump, dual mass flywheel which has been checked by a garage n been told it's fine, as well as possible camshaft or hydraulic tappet problems.
The car was at my partners friends garage for almost three days just sat outside and not once did it rattle when they started it.
It's back home now and this evening with it being cooler and on the drive way it's started tapping from the top end again.
This is my first scirocco and I'm starting to think it may be a lemon.
It's ex Lex Lease, 78k with a full VW history + a print off from Lex of a new turbo, injectors and ECU at being fitted at 73k.
I love the car to bits but am lost on what this harsh tapping noise could be.
I've asked VW Murray in Plymouth to give it a good look over which their doing on the 27th May and I'm tempted to pay them to remove the rocker cover just in case there's anything visible they can see to identify whats up with my engine.
I've recorded the tapping noise on my phone, every garage I've been to admits that VW diesels can be noisy when cold but shouldn't tap like mine does and continue to do so for anything up to 10 minutes.
I've plugged my ross tech kit in and I have no recorded faults either.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

James
