Chips

Hi,
I'm fairly new to the forum having recently bought a 63 reg 140 R Line with DSG box (my wife's ultimate choice). We're very pleased with the car especially the gearbox - our first auto- and the ride is better than the golf we had. My only reservation is the lack of power at the bottom end but this get's much better in the mid range.

My question is, what are the pro's and con's of getting the car chipped eventually which I guess would take it into the 170's maybe? I appreciate there would be the question of falling foul of the warranty, the car only being 6 months old, but is there a way round this, also, what difference would it make to fuel consumption etc.

I would be grateful for any advice from someone who's had their car done or anyone who's experienced in the subject.

Thanks.

Chipping is a bit of old term and not reslly applicable these days.

The most popular way of increasing the power is by remapping through the OBD port. Companies such as Revo and APR do this and you can get more imfo on their websites.

Another way is to use a tuning box from the likes of DTUK. The benefit brong it can easily be removed when the car is sold or going in for warranty work. Tnese are also popular with owners who.lease cars and are not allowed modifications.

Do a search.as both methods have been discussed in some length as have the companies who supply the service. Just search "remap"

There won't be much impact on economy other than you may drive it different. Some owners even report an improvement.

Warranty.- you pays your money you takes your chance.

Thanks C Bob,
Your input much appreciated.

I do know a little bit about it having built my own Caterham which I ran for over five years on road and track but these engines, particularly diesel, are a bit of a mystery to me.
