Newbie after some advice

Hi all I've been a happy owner of my 2009 Scirocco 2.0 140 TDI for a few weeks now but I'm wanting to change the engine oil early as it takes quite a long time for the engine oil to get up the top end after its been left out in the cold causing the engine to tap for a while after start up + the oil seems rather thick considering it had a long life service done back in November last year.
I'm wanting to know do I need any special tools to be able to remove the oil filter and sump plug ?
I've also got the HEX + CAN genuine VCDS Ross-Tech kit which I used to turn my DRL's off today but am still trying to clue up on it from here and Google searches.
