Advice on air intake for the R

Hi guys

After doing some research on intake systems for the R. I have come down to the fact that i would like a closed intake but just wanted to know what you guys thought. The choices are...

VWR air intake
Forge twintake
Amd with heat sheild (open air system)
Revo intake (open air system)

Any help and advice would be great

I've just bought the VWR intake and fitted today!! I can't comment on the other systems but this kit is superb, very well made, it just oozes quality! I don't like the open air systems, firstly because they are far noisier (don't want to sound like the local boy racers!) and secondly the potential for heat soak! Someone far more knowledgeable than me may dispute that, but for me I have more confidence in the closed system drawing in cold air directly from the factory inlet. I have heard that the alloy inlet pipe (VWR) could be more susceptible to heat soak than the Revo kit as that has a ceramic coating?

Of course at the end of the day it's up to you which system to go for, I feel that it's a very subjective topic!

I'm no mechanic myself but I managed it! The worst bit is removing the engine cover, you have to pull up and towards the front of the car slightly. It is held in place by 4 rubber donuts that fit down over cone shaped posts. I thought I was going to break mine as I was pulling like a b*****d!

The only other fiddly bit is the hose that attaches to the turbo inlet. The spring clip is difficult to get to. I used a pair of long nosed vice grips, a bit of swearing and it was off! I followed http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php ... uot-R-quot. It's on a Golf R but its the same on the Roc R!

Good luck!!

Other mods include; Revo Stage 1, KW DDC Coilovers, 9.5x19 Judd T202 wheels with 265/30/19 Eagle F1 tyres and -3deg camber on rear!, Kerscher Carbon front splitter, exhaust flapper mod, de-sounddaktored! and de-wipered with Gecleant glass grommet.

Don't have any recent pics. Will take some tomorrow when I've finished off the VWR intake install. Just got the clamps to tighten up, ran out of time today!

Found a couple pics on the wheel specialists Facebook page. These were taken straight after I had the wheels refurbed. Please ignore the dirty car it was chucking it down that day! :(

Really impressed with Revo. Never tried any other tuners! I had my first map way back in 2001 on an Audi A3 1.8T. Since then I've had their maps on all my cars. Never had any issues or problems so no need to change! If it isn't broke don't fix it!

Yeah may have to split the shocks and springs as that's all that most people want. If they're changing suspension completely then most seem to opt for coilovers!

Yes the KW's are pricey but again been using them since 2002! Same as Revo really it just does what it says on the tin! The DDC's though are incredible. I found the ride a little harsh with the H&R springs on the R shocks!

The KW's are damped beautifully, so much better than O.E.M too, even at the height I'm running mine!! They're not crashy or harsh at all even in sport mode!

If I had the choice again I wouldn't bother going down the spring route I would just get the KW's!

VWR or Revo gets my vote, in terms of performance the Revo will make better gains than the VWR one based on it being closed and not having a staggered intake pipe but the VWR is quieter, personally i'd avoid the twin take like the plague, the fact it doesn't work on a Mk6 Golf says it all really

Soo its definitely between revo open intake and vwr closes intake.

The vwr still my leader as its quieter and wont wake the missus at 5am every morning lol

I'm really sorry to hear about your knee op and that your sofa bound, hope you make a full recovery. I'm in the process of changing my interior bulbs for led type. I bought mine off MyLitCo on eBay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MyLitCo/VOLKSW ... 34.c0.m322 These are CANBUS compatible so will not throw error in dash.

Cheers,
Chris

Also have a look at the Roccopedia to establish the bulbs you need http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccop ... Bulb_Specs
