Been hearing this tapping recently Its progressivly got louder, VW said it is normal and its the fuel pump. I cannot help but worry about a tapping noise all I can think is somethings loose, Cam follower needs replacing, Sparkplug ect ect....
Any one have any ideas or VW actually right Id love some footage of someone elses inside the vehicle and below the bonnet thanks!

personally i'd take it to a decent independant to get a once over given what you have had bolted onto it etc than put your faith in VW, Alex at AKS diagnosed an issue with the low pressure fuel pump on the tank on my wife's car which was making a ticking from the rear but nowhere near as pronounced at that, which has gone un noticed by the dealer
seems rather loud if you ask me and i'd be amazed if it was the cam follower

Are the R a tfsi engine (timing belt) which suffers with fuel pump cam follower wear.....

it does but in reality, wear is increased on Stage 2+ cars and i'll be honest how well cars are maintained, i've seen a cam follower on a 70k mapped car with no issues

Only problem I'm in Germany now the nearest specialist is along way away!!
The noise happens randomly on start up its not there then it's there all of a sudden strange!
On the dyno 6 weeks ago it was proven the fuel delivery was good so it seems unlikely to be the pump, could it be vibrations from the engine/fuel pump being amplified by a loose connection somewhere?

Cam follower wear is variable from vehicle to vehicle. Worth a check for sure if the car has done more than 40k miles. Although for the sake of £25 you may as we'll replace it while inspecting it

wouldn't say a dyno run is proof there is not a problem, vcds will low pressure v load, you could be making less pressure with greater load and not necessarily see issues

definitely if the HPFP side of things is vein looked at as well
our fuelling issues was solved by new lpfp in the tank and a change of fuel filer

If im replacing the fuel pump I may aswell go for HPFP and go 2+, looking for a new LPFP is the same cost as the HPFP unless some can point me in the right direction. I dont particually want to change anything if im honest, however if my car is at risk for a potentially expensive job if all goes wrong I need to get it sorted!

I think you are getting confused as your car has two fuel pumps a LPFP which sits in the petrol tank and a HPFP, the HPFP is what most people upgrade with the likes of APR or Loba

On other forums there's a number of very similar problems seems VW's are not as well built invincible machines as I once thought! Hopefully is an easy explanation and covered under warranty..

In all seriousness we've done 77k on that engine and few issues, when you start running more power and modifications it can exaggerate underlying issues, I will say I prefer my VWs built in Wolfsburg and Spain rather than Portugal
