they were working before....what ? have you recently done any work to the car or been messing with the controllers in VAG COM ?
if not , are there any error messages on the MFD ?
both mirrors dont fold or just one ?
both lights dont work or just one ?
can you still adjust the glass remotely ?
Have you checked fuses and relays ?

both mirrors work normally when adjusting, works when in reverse as long as in left position which i understand, both puddle lights not working when doors opened, car has been in twice for diagnostics in last month, once to garage i got car from arnold clark, then vw when arnold clark couldnt get fault codes up,mirrors were working fine when they went into arnold clark

In that case , my first suspicion would be changes to the coding in the door mirror modules.
I retrofitted folding mirrors to my car , and didn't need to add a fused circuit - the folding function and puddle lights must therefore use an existing fused power supply circuit - most probably the same circuit as the feed for the up/down/left/right adjustment - so if the adjustment still works ok , i'd suspect the fuse (and relay if it uses one) must be ok too.
With nor error messages in the MFD - its unlikely to be a hard fault ( such as a short to ground etc)
As both mirrors are affected - its unlikely to be a problem with the mirror motor or controller module hardware
The door modules dont use the normal (easy) check box options ,you have to work out the binary coding to add/remove optional functionality (see my powerfold mirror 'How-to' for details here >>
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 37&t=14719) , so it's unlikely that arnold clarke would have gone into that controller and messed about ? - but software is the most obvious thing i would suspect from your symptoms.
The first thing i'd do is hook up VAG COM and see what coding is in both the drivers and passengers control modules - as it sounds to me like these options have simply been turned off.
