New Owner and Bluetooth

I have some Bluetooth unit, which does not work from the Stereo, or multi function steering wheel. It does have the VW logo and part number, and is not under either seat as mentioned. Seems it is one of the units below. I am saving up for a late model RNS, and would like the OEM bluetooth to work. My car is a late 2010 model, which VW BT unit do I need? Can I re use MIC? Or just pull the lot out where it may be hiding and go from scratch? Anyone been in the same situ? Why was this unit sold, when the steering wheel has functions, I've the basic head unit which still has the Phone button. Was the BT unit not out at the time, or not a retro fit by VW. The guy I bought the car from, bought from new, and was only offered this half functioning option

I can't wait to bin it

Hello and welcome.
This issue has been discussed a few times on the forum, so try searching for bluetooth topics that will help. What you have in your car is the rebranded bury kit... it's not OEM, it's just something VW have used as an aftermarket solution (and possibly with a deal made with bury).
When I got my 2010 roc, this was what I had installed... I have since uninstalled it and replaced with the OEM bluetooth that works with the headunits.
Forgot to answer your questions in all that:
1) You cannot use the Mic
2) This was the solution for cars that didn't have bluetooth fitted from factory, or possibly a BT option that didn't just work with only rSap phones... You might have to search on the rSap topic saga.
3) The VW BT module you need depends on the functionality that you want from it. The lastest out there as of last week was VW Part number: - 7P6 035 730L. There are other less expensive options
EDIT:
FYI

Thanks for the reply, I'll get searching. As long as my RNS, and steering wheel functions work as my MK V GTi did, I'll be happy. I'm not bothered about voice reg

If you get the right kit, and get the opportunity to code it properly using VAGCOM - it will all work fine

My mate can code, I'd like it also to function through the Highline too. I'll get searching on Ebay too

Just a quick note before I forget: I found removing the old bury kit an absolute nightmare!! It must have been included in the vehicle at factory level, because there were cable ties in places I couldnt even dream of reaching! Bear that in mind when you retrofit

So this is all I'll need plus coding.
Thanks for the warning, I'm hoping mine was not fitted from the factory

Its not fitted under the seat though. I stripped my Mk V Gti out, so have a little exp now. Next up will be a Rns 510, once I save up. Is this price reasonable? Do you know what changed from one model to the next? I'd like it to work from steering wheel, highline and RCD510. Thanks for your help

that's what you need, it's the latest revision too, but you can get it cheaper possibly from carsystems.pl

Thanks for the link.
The unit it's self is realatively cheap, buying it with a plug and play loom is a win.
I used to have Kufetec on my Gti, which was Ok. But want to go Oem.
I'm guessing you can buy the plug and play looms on there own?
The unit you can source from eBay breakers cheap, but would need the loom and mic.
More useful would be the cradle it should sit in under the seat, or did you hide yours away?
Thanks

It's still cheaper on carsystems - and if you order the retrofit from there, it comes with loom and mic, all ready like the one in the link you sent. I reckon I paid about 180£ or close to that.
If you can get the unit, mic etc separate + cheaper, then go for it!
I hid mine behind the climate controls, it's like Narnia down there, couldn't be bothered with routing cabling everywhere! I was nervous enough pulling down my roof lining so far

- not to mention taking off the A pillar without damaging the airbag logo clip
