I just noticed that the R is no longer an option on the VW UK website. I'm sure it was there last night.
Anyone know what the story is?

There's your answer, book a trip to Sweden pronto.
Mine was built week before last so hopefully doesn't affect me. Guess large petrol engine cars are a dieing breed, sadly.

Just checked the Polish configurator and it's gone from there too. Interesting!

I'm ordering through Drive The Deal, so haven't been put in touch with the dealer just yet.
Going to ring them now...

Ok, couldn't get through to DTD so I rang VW UK. Spoke to a cracking lad called Ali. He basically told me that I'm possibly the first person to realise this and that it's because the release of the details of the R facelift are iminent.

He said that there should be some pictures or details online, somewhere....but I told him that if there were, one of the Roc nuts on here would have already found them by now...

There is nothing on line apart from some Photoshop stuff - as you say, if there was the forums would be buzzing.... does not look good for the immediate future of the R. Given a facelift of the model its likely that the R would be the last to be released in any case - its always the case with the Golf :-(

Golf 6R was removed about 6-9 month before golf 7 was released. Maybe this is the case? Looks like scirocco facelift is coming?

I very much doubt you will see a new R model coming any time soon. I can assure you the dealer would have no idea even if there was

Gone from the VW R gmbh website as well. I'd guess the final production numbers for a R specific part have been reached.
The .de forums are reporting discontinuation from Build Week 45 and all production for the .de market having been allocated, interestingly the "r-line" trim will live on a factory option looks like VWUK have decided to bin that anyway. If you want one I'd be calling your dealer first thing Monday to see if they have any allocation left. A broker will probably take a few days to get round to placing an order so I wouldn't personally go down that route now.
In other matters post build week 45 cars get a new alarm system without deadlocks.

I should be re-naming this thread "Bye Bye Mk.III 'R' "

By the way is there any figures how many R's were built worldwide? How rare the car is?

Ha, glad I didn't wait for BW45 on whispers of LED tailights, etc.

Pardon my ignorance, but removing deadlocks doesn't seem like a good thing? What is the alternative?

There isn't an alternative, this change has been applied to basically everything from VW excluding mk7 golf which didn't have them in the first place.
It'll have been a cost saving driven change no doubt, I'd guess that thatcham and similar don't require this feature so it's been binned.
