Oil consumption help!

Hi there,
I have had my 2.0 tsi scirocco for about a year now and over the last 3 months it's been guzzling oil and engine coolant has been disappearing. I took it to the dealer to get looked at but they returned it saying its in spec and uses 0.5l of oil every 600 miles, which seems like a lot to me.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and managed to fix this?

When you mentioned oil and coolant together my first thought was head gasket but if it has been checked by the garage I assume this would have been found. Not used any oil in my wife's 2.0 TSI or any coolant and now 3.5 years old. Your oil consumption seems excessive but manufacturers always use the same excuse of being within manufacturers spec. The trouble with that is that they are being judge and jury by setting the spec low enough for nothing much to fail but it would be difficult to challenge without a lot of spare cash.
Not sure what oil you are using but if it is 5w30 you could try 5w40 as long as it is VW approved to keep the warranty. This improved the consumption in a previous car. Watch the coolant as if it is not being lost via the engine it could be the water pump - a known issue with some VW engines.

Oil and coolant mixing can also be faulty oil cooler. Even an engine with high oil consumption doesn't use any coolant. Have you had the coolant system pressure tested?

Thanks for getting back to me guys
@salsajoe, yeah I asked and they said the head gasket was fine, there isn't any creamy gunk on the oil cap either. It's been weird that it's all happened in the last few months and it's working out for every 2 tanks of fuel I use I need to put in 0.5l of oil. I have started keeping I diary of when, how many miles and how much oil I need to put in every month now so I can hopefully challenge the dealer. I'm using 5w30 at the moment but ill switch over to 5w40 and see if that hopefully makes a difference. Ill get them to check that then as I'm not seeing any spotting on the ground if its leaking out or anything
@Curprabob, the garage never said if they did a pressure test but ill ask them to see if anything comes up with that. If it is that then it's a step forward at least
