just be aware that on the Autoroute in Belgium if you stop for fuel at most petrol stations you need to prepay, some let you do this by card machine at pumps and brim tank, other you need to do it at the kiosk and ask for a set number of litres/euros which can be a pinta as you need to do the conversions

i tend to take it relatively easy around calais area given the French Rousers, also that is a main route through Europe so HGVs can hamper progress, generally the worst drivers on the continent are the Brits who still hanker for the middle lane and get confused as to which side of the road is the inside lane

you just need the usual bits and bobs which you can search for, also worth reading this which cropped up on the AA site which is a bit alarming:

Just come back from a trip to and from the south of France - no problems on the roads. Only saw one Policeman in 800 odd miles - stick to 85and you will be fine although like over here, go too fast and expect to be pulled.

Fuel is cheap if your an oil burner whereas petrol is more expensive over in France - in any event, just take a detour off the autoroute to the nearest supermarket and it will be 10 cents cheaper.

If you are doing a lot of toll roads - buy a toll tag so you can use the fast toll lanes - you can get them online and set up via direct debit - really made our trip much easier

The Roc is a great GT car for munching up the miles - enjoy the trip!

overall great trip. thanks for the advice wgit. man the UK drivers are mad over there, just see them hitting 100mph+ haha. its crazy but the driving is immense, i love it so much.

i actually filled up in derby, went to city of london as was early then into dover arrive just over half a tank. went off at calais, headed for holland through belgium/rotterdam, filled up after 410 miles. wasnt even empty was still showing 80miles but didnt wanna risk it :P.

on way back filled up half way back and then again at dover, got back on half a tank into derby. so not too bad. really great car. i do think diesels would be better as you can just cruise along, and i wish i had cruise control option.

yeah i didnt see one policecar actually. some dude i met on the ferry actually said dont drive to fast buddy or expect your car to be auctioned off and you in jail, got me a bit paranoid but was great to be honest. id reccomend anyone thinking of driving over to defo do so.

glad you are back safe and sound i love driving on the continent as you just cover miles so easily, they ban lorries from over taking and lane discipline is way better, what was also noticeable in Germany was in restrcited sections of the Autobahn people respected the limit then stretched their legs when it went back to being derestricted

Agreed, had a holiday in France a few years back and driving was so relaxing (this is before I got my Roc) and covered about 2,000 miles.

Back on the M20 in Kent, traffic jams and stress again! :(
