Longer term stage 2 experience question.

I am thinking about a stage 2 upgrade (ca 335bhp) Are there any drivers here with this kind of setup who drove for 20k miles or more? How is the clutch etc and the car in general holding itself? I drive a manual gearbox myself.

Accepted wisdom is that you'll need to replace or upgrade the clutch pack with stage 2 over time, it depends on what period your going to do 20k miles and what your total mileage is going to be. IIRC it's usually after the 20k mark that stage 2 cars start to experience slip. However if you do sprints, trackdays or just generally dump the clutch regularly expect to have to change earlier, some OEM clutches have gone with as little 4k on them yet some have got for 40k+.

Budget for new plugs every 20k tops and check your oil regularly consumption will increase, also get the cam follower inspected regularly, budget for a DMF change with the clutch.

Wigit had some heavy stuff done to his Rocco, he did some mileage too. Sure he can chip in when he comes on with some help too.

feedback based on running the following:

Rocco GT TSI Stage 2
GTI Mk5 K04 Stage 1
GTI Mk6 K04 Stage 2

bOrk is spot on with his comments about clutches as there is no real rule of thumb on this, based on my experience and having seen others need clutches in rocco Rs

my rocco needed a new clutch at 30k when running stage 2 (the IHI produced a shed load of torque lower down), there again it had done numerous 1/4 miles, ran an upgraded sachs in it on stock dmf

the mk5 GTI with K04 has now done 72k and has been running stage 1 for over 60k, only now is the clutch showing signs of slipping (so now running reduced boost), if i swap it it is likely to have stock clutch and new dmf as days are numbered

my mk6 GTI with K04 has been mapped since 1k and now done 15k with those miles being essentially stage 2, i respect the clutch on that and so far so good but it generally has a hard use as not my daily

also depends on mapper, I actually never max out my Revo boost settings (like a lot of Billies) as it is actually sweeter with slightly lower levels of power.

I agree with wigit on turning the settings down with revo stg2. Honestly I haven't noticed the difference between boost 6, 7,8 and 9 real world or trackday and I do a lot of trackdays.. :D

The subjective feel of greater boost at low rpm with the higher boost setting never seems to translate meaningfully on gopro lap times not that I actually care about times, if your doing 1/4miles the higher boost setting may be more meaningful.

I've decided to go for the stage 2 in coming March. I'm not doing a lot of 1/4 mile or track days so we'll see where it goes. Thx for the feedback guys.

I'm at stage 2 running the more aggressive map t5 b9 f8 the car is very has a lot of torque, I've not experienced any slip in 5k I've done a total of 22k so far so I'm hoping to hit at least 30k before upgrading to the sasch!
