Well i have been offered a great deal on a tdi scirocco 170 tdi dsg
What are your guys opionions on a move from a 2.0 Tsi Dsg to a Tdi 170 dsg?
Is fuel economy going to be a great difference? will i save more money on fuel? is the dsg box as smooth and quick as the tsi? is there power? etc
If i could get some negative/posotives from some of you rocco knowladgable guys, would be great.
thanks

if its a great deal then buy it! Although if you only do small journeys the DPF may give you issues depending how old the car is?

Lol you have gone through more sciroccos than I have had hot dinners!

... Jokes aside I would say test drive it you will soon find out for yourself. The 170 has plenty of power. Loads of torque. Won't you miss the sound of the tsi? Regarding the dpf mentioned above , It must be really low millage. I travel 4.5 miles to work then the same back 5 days a week. And I haven't had any dpf issues yet touch wood! And would of had the car 1 year in September.

If you are worried about a lack of performance on the 170 budget an additional £400-£500 for a remap. Well worth it in my experience.
My Roc has done 10 000 miles 95% of that has been in London traffic. It has honestly only been outside the M25 about a dozen times. No DPF issues either before or after the REVO Remap.

I have a 2.0tsi and got given a 2.0tdi as a courtesy car today, as mine is in for warranty issues. It's a manual though (both are), I thought it was a smooth as the tsi, also, the reduction in power isn't noticable in everyday driving. Perhaps on the motorway in higher gears, you will notice it doesn't pull away as quickly.
At a traffic light, due to the high torque, you wont notice the reduction in power so much IMO.
I've seen some tdi readings of 65 - 70mpg on this forum, so you will definitely be getting more for your money out of it fuelwise (especially if you used to fill up with shell nitro before)

Reason why the diesel doesn't pull as quickly at motorway speeds is due to higher gearing. TSI will be around 25mph/1000rpm where diesel is 35mph/1000rpm

thanks guys i really appreciate the feedback. i am really considering it , i do around 15k a year my work journey is like 130 miles a week so not really ALOT. but it costs 35 - 40 for a weeks worth of fuel, a few guys have said a tdi will get you around 600 miles which i think is really good, i am still young and want the tsi fun but then again i want to be sensible and save money. the deal is they gave me sucha great p/x value over 1000 than what i have been offered. i have to put in 600£, but i think im holding it off for now. some guys over at scirocco net have had a good discussion on it, and the best thing would be to do is just stay happy and keep the tsi, not like its a bad car or really eating away at me in fuel. id just like to know that itd be abled to get 600 miles out a tank of a car that i owned

As I can see, you seem to have had a lot of tsi fun already with the number of 'rocs you've had

. So maybe time to sit back a lil' bit in the tdi and see how it goes???

I drove both and thought the Diesel was the better option as I do 20,000 miles per annum - in terms of MPG, I average 48mpg on trip 2 with a mix of town/motorway driving. The DSG is as smooth on both - in fact, it felt like it didnt change up as often on the tDI but this may have been down to torque which comes in bucket fulls in the tdi at low revs - it sounds crap though - all 4 pot derv burners do IMO but in the cabin you really cant notice the diesel clatter much if at all.
If the car is newer/less miles than yours then for £600 i would be changing it as the residual value will be better when it comes to change again

I did a lot of research before buying mine to see whether to go for Tsi or Tdi. I came from a Merc C220 CDI Sport Edition and was a company car so diesel cost me less in company car tax even though I wasn't doing loads of miles and company paid for servicing etc. I then changed jobs and needed to buy a private car but still wasn't going to be doing a great deal of mileage. I worked out, and lots of things on the internet will agree, that unless you are doing over 15,000 miles per year it is really not cost effective to go for the diesel when you take into account fuel costs, servicing, maintenance etc.
I went for the TSi although my mileage is only around 8000 per year so probably an easier decision to make.

the reason that made me go look for a TDI model was the fact that i could be looking at getting potentially 500 miles + from a full tank, i was checking out a 140 TDI but again i dont know weather its worth it, and theres not many in the price range that would make me change with spec that i have got, the mileage is few thousand more with less options but a year newer, so im not sure. i was also looking at a 3dr golf tdi gt 140. but again i dont know if it comes to the point, i dont think i could let go off the my scirocco. decisions decisions ... hmmm.
i do 140 miles a week , most of it is either its part motorway part normal roads. but sometimes i take a country road route to miss traffic.
Then weekends i may do around 80 - 100 miles depending on what the plans are, now coming towards summer i will be doing a lot more mileage.

It's a tough call. I would always go for the 170 tdi over the 140 TDi as there's little in it in terms of economy in the real world but a fair bit in terms of performance.
Is it a GT spec or something.?

My 2p:
I moved to a Scirocco 170TDI from a Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0TFSI
the difference in fuel consumption is huge. I get on average 16mpg better with the scirocco (sometimes more), and the delivery and smoothness in the CR170 is very impressive. You very rarely miss the petrol engine when you have 170bhp and bags of torque available before 4500rpm
