New car, few questions! (sorry!)

Hi guys,

I just picked up my new Scirocco today ('08 2.0 TSI, DSG in silver) and as these things always seem to go I'm only now noticing some things that I should have before I bought it! Love the car and with only 10k on the clock (which seems legit) it drives very well and still feels "new" despite its age. I've been looking at this forum for weeks to learn all I could and appreciate all the good advice here!

A few questions if I may be so bold -

1. No Bluetooth, for some reason I thought it was installed but never really checked (doh!), I have the RCD 510 head unit so is it possible to get VW to retrofit their own kit? If so does anyone know the cost?? :eyepop:

2. One of the rear tweeters doesn't seem to work, is this easy to access without pulling the car completely apart? (again will probably go to VW as I'm not too handy with the spanners despite actually designing home speakers for a living :D)

3. The tyres look to be original and while they still have ok tread they are looking pretty aged with lots of little cracks in the rubber, I've seen 6 years quoted as a standard tyre life so should I replace by then? (also what PSI should I be putting in - 18" 235's, I can't see the info anywhere including inside the doors where it normally says or the maintenance book!) The wheel nut covers and VW logo's are a bit of a state too but I've seen this issue and will probably Ebay some new ones... :)

4. Last thing - I didn't notice that the car seems to have been jacked up in the wrong place on the passenger side and there's a bit of a pinch type dent in the lower sill (the hammerite finish part) - I presume this is not a problem that requires immediate attention and is just a cosmetic area?

Many thanks in advance for any advice, I'm overall really happy with the car, just these little niggly points I wished I'd seen first!

Cheers,

Jim.

*Edit - Oh and one final final thing I forgot - The RCD 510 doesn't seem to pick up an AM signal (for Five Live), is there a logical reason for that?? :?

Glad you are enjoying the car.

I can answer some of the questions and I am sure others will chip in as well.

1 The RCD 510 did not come with Bluetooth as standard. An additional module is required and things like a mike. VW usually charge quite a lot. Other suppliers charge about £390 fitted to a 510. Packages can be picked up on ebay and there are threads on here somewhere if you want to fit it yourself. Bit of as bind to remove interior trim to fit the wiring for the mike.

2 Not tried to remove tweeter so can't comment.

3 Tyre pressures should be listed on the fuel filler cap and unless the car has not been used regularly the tyres should be Ok as you say. If the car has been garaged and not used with wheels on the ground you could get deterioration. Low mileage suggests it could be the case.

4 Not sure where the dent is. The pinch type dent could be the 'marker' for the jacking point if it is triangular shape. There should be one at each corner of the sill opposite each jacking point. If not the same at each corner then it is a dent but should not be a problem if the paint is not broken.

Thanks for the reply!

Think I might have to give the Bluetooth a miss if that's the case, a little steep!

I didn't look on the fuel filler cap so that could well be the answer, cheers for that.

The dent is between those jacking points and is only on one side, I'll take some pics of the car at some point but it definitely looks as though it shouldn't be there - not the end of the world as you say though, I'll have a good look later but there may just be a break in the paint that could rust so it might need replacing (typically even though the car has had 4 services the next looks to be due next month so I'll get VW to take a look, another thing I should have checked but just believed the garage when they said it's not due for 10k!) :)

Thanks again,

Jim.
